Katedra molekularni biologie a biochemie vznikla 1. ledna 2002, odloucenim od puvodni katedry obecne biologie. Vetsina vyzkumnych projektu je zamerena na funkcni analyzu genu, ktera je provadena na ruznych modelovych systemech (drozofila a jine druhy hmyzu, hadatko, trypanozoma). Studenti doktorskych a magisterskych programu jsou skoleni v nejmodernejsich metodach molekularni genetiky vcetne mutageneze, RNA interference, pripravy transgennich organismu a prace s bunecnymi kulturami. K tomu katedra vyuziva spolupraci a technicke zazemi ustavu BC AV CR, v.v.i. (Entomologicky ustav, Parazitologicky ustav).

The department was established on January 1st, 2002, separating from the original Department of General Biology. The majority of the projects is focused on functional gene analysis performed on various model systems (Drosophila and other insects, C. elegans, trypanosomes). Students in Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs are trained in the latest methods of molecular genetics including mutagenesis, RNA interference, transgenic organisms and cell cultures. The Department has technical support from the Entomological and Parasitological Institutes.
